  4. Important Installation Notes: 
  5. ----------------------------
  6. This product requires the VB6 Runtime, which should be downloaded from Microsoft at:
  7. http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp5/WIN98Me/EN-US/vbrun60sp5.exe (1 MB)

  9. Please install the runtime before running the program. In some cases you may be prompted to reboot once
  10. after installing the runtime.
  11. [ Some systems may not need the runtime or have it already installed. If you get any errors when starting
  12. the program, the missing runtime is likely to be the cause. ]

  14. Win95 users: This program has limited functionality under Win95, but you are encouraged to try it.

  16. WinXP and above, users: Good news - The program may run on XP and above without the need to install the vb
  17. runtime because it usually comes with the operating system.

  22. Emsa PC FlexInfo - System Information and Diagnostics Utility for Windows 9x/ME/NT/XP/2000/2003

  24. This program is FREEWARE. Please refer to the license.txt file for more information.

  26. Emsa PC FlexInfo is a freeware system information and diagnstics utility. What it does is, gathering system 
  27. information data, also benchmark (CPU Speed test), and network info (IP and host lookup, Ping tool). It also
  28. shows realtime stats on items like CPU and memory load. The system information data is presented as text so
  29. it can be copied and pasted into documents. This program was designed with simplicity in mind, but usefulness
  30. for the user.

  32. It is to be mentioned that we do not intend to stop here. We consider this application as a starting point,
  33. a platform on which new things will be added in time and possibly evolve into a series of different products.
  34. Due to this fact, we recommend to check back often. We are definitely going to add new things to this
  35. application as well as other useful tools, within the next months from the original release. Please visit

  38. System information
  39. ------------------
  40. The system information provides various informations about the local system ,like Operating System name and
  41.  version, system folders, Service packs, cpu information, keyboard, mouse, environment variables, system
  42. drives information, memory allocation, supported screen modes, processes running, power & battery status, 
  43. sound devices, services, local IP address & host, system.ini and win.ini files.

  45. Realtime info
  46. -------------
  47. The CPU graph and memory indicators show realtime info about these parameters, like memory allocation and 
  48. page file.

  50. Benchmarking
  51. ------------
  52. The CPU speed test allows you to check the estimated PR factor of your machine. The test takes about 
  53. half a minute. Please note that most benchmarking operations stress hardware components - therefore weak or
  54. faulty components may occasionally fail during tests. We are not responsible if they do so - you run the
  55. test at your own risk. Make sure you close as many applications as possible before running the speed tests,
  56. so they do not interfere with the testing process. It is recommended that you perform the test 2-3 times to
  57. be sure of the result. 
  58. PR factor: This is an estimated figure and may be different from other tests.For comparison, here are a 
  59. few test results from practice:
  60. 1. Pentium 4/1800 Mhz -- PR 1780 (Intel mode)
  61. 2. Pentium III/800 Mhz -- PR 800 (Intel mode)
  62. 3. Pentium III/1200 Mhz -- PR 1215 (Intel mode)
  63. 4. Athlon Palomino 1700+ -- PR 1720 (AMD mode)

  65. Network info

  67. The network info section allows resolving remote IP addresses and hostnames, as well as pinging ip/hosts. 
  68. More functionality will be added in future versions.

  72. These are actually a few simple gadgets that may come in handy. For example when checking disk space you 
  73. may want to empty your recycle bin before checking the space.

  77. Any usual Windows machine with about one mbyte of disk space will do. 800x600 min screen resolution.

  79. Compatibility notice
  80. --------------------
  81. Please note that not all functions work on all operating system. On some operating systems some of these 
  82. tools may not work at all or fail at some point. While we are making effort to make this application as 
  83. compatible as possible with a large number of systems, it is to be observed that due to large number of 
  84. configurations not all operations may be available on a certain system.
